Football Manager 2015: 10 Most Infuriating Things That Always Happen

9. Your Centre Half Thinks He's Franz Beckenbauer

It€™s League Two, your centre halves are big, bruising defenders. They€™re powerful in the air and will win any long ball lumped in their direction. You've set their role to limited defender. All you expect from them is to win the ball and clear the danger. Your instructions are clear: win the ball without conceding a free-kick and get it up the pitch. You've selected more direct passing as you want to transaction the ball into the final third as quickly as possible. For the most part, this works out well but at that crucial moment, with the game poised on a knife-edge, your centre half suddenly decides he has the ball-playing ability of Herr Beckenbauer. He wins the ball cleanly and hesitates as he decides what to do with it. The attacker closes him down while he continues to dwell on the ball. He turns one way and then the other, still holding onto it. €œPass, pass, dear God PASS,€ you scream at the screen. But it€™s no use. The striker has robbed him of the ball and he€™s through on goal to calmly slot the winner home.
