Yesterday, BBC news reported that OpCapita officially bought the retail chain, GAME. This should come as great news for employees of the remaining 333 UK shops still open. Now the jobs of nearly 3,200 employees will remain intact, and the possibility of a small group of head office workers may be re-employed by the company. Details of the financial transactions currently remain unanounced for the deal, but it is speculated that the cost of GAME up front was a significantly small amount. It is important to remember, that the high amount of debt accumulated by GAME is now the responsibility of OpCapita. With OpCapita being a private investment firm that specializes in retail, it really doesn't come as much of a surprise for them to pick up GAME. With the firm setting up a company called, Baker Acquisitions to purchase the shops, it is wondered what the next step will be. With 277 stores already shut down, it will be an interesting time ahead for GAME. Time will prove to be either the companion or enemy on the road to recovery. Recent exposure in the press of the acquisition, may spawn more attention for the video game retail chain. While many may be quick to see this type of exposure as negative, perhaps it will become a powerful tool. One thing is certain, change is coming and the UK will retain a gaming retail giant.
