Gamescom 2019: 10 Announcements That Would BREAK The Internet
10. Marvel Confirm The "Marvel Gaming Universe" (MGU)
For the past year or so, this has become considered more of a "when", rather than an "if".
Since taking back the licenses to their characters, Marvel have been keen to build what they've dubbed the 'MGU', or Marvel Gaming Universe, drafting in Insomniac to adapt Spider-Man and putting Square Enix on The Avengers and The Guardians of the Galaxy.
The developers on Spider-Man added further fuel to the fire that all of these Marvel games would be connected like their cinematic counterparts, not only by including a bunch of references to other heroes in the title itself, but likening the release to the MCU's Iron Man, i.e. ground zero for a connected universe of video games.
So far, Square's Avengers project has been focused solely on the titular heroes, but with Sony also at Gamescom, this could be the moment the partnership is revealed, potentially via a trailer that references - or even shows in the flesh - Insomniac's Spider-Man.
