Virtual reality gaming has come a long way since Oculus rolled out its first prototype headset, but does that mean games like Grand Theft Auto should embrace the technology. According to a report by NeuroGadget, the answer is yes.
The tech website speculates that GTA 6 could include full VR support to boost the sense of immersion, in a similar fashion to its predecessor's use of the first-person perspective. While headset compatability would undoubtedly have this effect, does anyone really have the stomach for an entire Grand Theft Auto campaign in VR?
If it's anything like the previous games, GTA 6 will be action-packed, fast-paced and designed with lengthy playing sessions in mind. In other words, not the kind of experience you'd want to take in with additional hardware strapped to your face.
That said, VR in small doses could work in Grand Theft Auto. Perhaps it could be optional in specific missions, or limited to the multiplayer-centric Grand Theft Auto Online as part of an update that comes bundled with the sequel.
But an entire GTA solo campaign in virtual reality? Pass the sick bucket.
