Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the top-selling games of all time and its online component continues to attract droves of wannabe gangsters each day. With this in mind, GTA 6 has always been a case of when, not if, but developer Rockstar Games remains tight-lipped on the subject of its very existence.
This comes as no surprise, given that the studio is known to announce sequels only when it is good and ready, and is currently putting the finishing touches on the long-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 ahead of its October debut.
Such things, however, have not stopped GTA fans from wondering what the next sequel might hold; salivating at the thought of another open-world gangster's paradise to explore. The early rumours and apparent leaks have only added fuel to their desire to know more about the unannounced follow-up.
Many of the GTA 6 rumours so far make the game sound tantalising indeed. Reports of a female protagonist, missions abroad and a country-spanning world map suggest that the franchise is about to break into exciting new territory.
On the flipside, though, are the online rumblings nobody wants to be true, the ludicrous claims that would make the next GTA criminally bad if they came to pass.
