Are you aware that Grand Theft Auto 5 is coming out? No? Well funnily enough, it is. Relatively soon we’re led to believe and whilst the majority of the universe plays out their lives in wistful ignorance of this gaming goliaths kind-of imminent, kind-of not imminent arrival; we here at WhatCulture towers have allowed ourselves a little bit of excitement…Before quickly stopping such tom-foolery to maintain serious attitudes.
One of the many reasons GTA has elevated itself in to the pantheons of gaming greatness is its stories. Always character driven and emotional whilst not skimping on the humour, the fun and the glorious amounts of bloody violence.
In honour of this, the greatest of GTA’s many qualities, we’ve conjured up a little wish list of top quality story lines we would love to see as the main thrust of GTA 5’s new narrative. Pick any of them, it doesn’t bother us…
1. Standard Hostage Situation
The Story:
An honest working man struggles through hard times during the economic down turn. Unemployed and unemployable he turns to loan sharks to help him out.
In a completely unpredictable plot turn, the loan sharks get greedy and kidnap his wife and kids until he can get the money he owes; what begins as a short rescue attempt becomes a man’s descent in to organised crime as he tries to infiltrate the massive organisation that has his wife and daughter. (Could this be where the KIFFLOM organisation comes in to it?).
Awesome Moment:
After 40 hours of bloody, emotional gameplay our character is reunited with his wife and child…Just the thought is making me weep.
Good Points About This Story:
Easy for character to explore the world of the police, organised crime and religious cults.
Good freedom for the social commentary that Rockstar love so much.
Character driven and his morals will be more on display as he was not a ‘bad man’ until this story began.
Bad Points About This Story:
Hostage/revenge tail? It’s done quite a bit in the GTA universe; CJ was a hostage to Tenpenny and Niko Bellic was driven by bloodthirsty revenge in GTA 4.

It’s already revealed that Albert da Silva is a former highranking member of a Vice City Crime Family, the vice mob. It would be cool if the vice mob would sent him to los santos because the vice mob wants to expand to San andreas(california). Albert da Silva however doesn’t adventualy want to hand over the EMpire he build in los santos to the leaders of the vice mob and takes control of the vice mob in los santos (renaming it the Los Santos Mob). The vice mob leaders don’t accept this and start a war with the LS Mob. It’s a strong story and you can play with the storyline in alot of different ways. You have to launder your drugmoney through legal businesses like nightclubs before you can spend it for example, you can hire henchmen to support you on your missions, you can have a personal driver. All ideas you can use if you create a mob like storyline.
I think this would be a good story. It would be cool to be a leader, call the shots, instead of following orders all the time.
Nice!
Ever played GTA Vice City? It has exactly the same storyline you describe here.
And the main character isn’t Albert Da Silva (that’s just a fake leak). On the other hand if he came to Los Santos “for the weather”, I doubt he came from Vice City…
No, Albert de Silva is still a rumor, hasnt heen confirmed by anyone and neither has a story line.
go play vice city and see if it hasn’t been done before
If Rockstar’s casting call from last year is anything to go by, it looks as though the main character may be Mitch Hayes, a former federal agent who turns to crime in the midst of economic meltdown. There may also be a clue in the trailer, as he claims he wants to “be one of the good guys for once,” which, in the GTA universe would make him a criminal – there’s a level of cynicism here that fits Rockstar perfectly.
I would really like to see some undercover agent story. Somethin’ like Max Payne meets GTA. Some great loss, revenge, moral crusade and deathwish story.. Maybe more non-black’n'white Read-Dead-Redemption-like stile.
Just buy Sleeping Dogs bro beans.
I think it should be like San Andreas where you can create your own gang and choose their colors and take over hoods and territory and ride bikes and also play basketball again
Albert DaSilva is the protagonist’s boss so he is sort of like Sweet, Rosenberg and Sal rolled into one.
i hope thats true. i dont want to play an older guy and smoke weed which i heard you can do
I would be disappointed in a hostage storyline, because that’s exactly what Red Dead Redemption was… I LOVE Red Dead, but would like to see the story arc go a different direction…
We should play as a hillbilly who is the son of the person whos cannabis farm we burnt down in san andreas. Out for revenge after years and years of reacurring nightmares of watchn that weed burn on that sad day. We should also be able to farm our own weed. Also when we get drunk it should gives us beer goggles have drunkn conversations that inadvertantly insultpeople.please rockstar give us to customize ourselves to be a 400lb blackman or give us the choice to have a wooden leg or a stump for an arm
Something tells me you might be an amputee….it might be that last part…possibly.
Ex-bad ass who relocated due to witness protection. Had to rat cause his old pals put a hit on him and his family. Moves to Los Santos but gets mixed up with the wrong people trying to make money to support his family. I’d like to see a story arch where you do some crazy drug missions with a ‘raul duke’ (fear and loathing in Las Vegas) type of character.
Terrible article. Just indescribably terrible.
The story should affect gameplay and change the atmosphere in the city. Like for example, the main character should be in a gang but he messes up on a big hest and has to prove himself to the gang leader by robbing a bank and making a name for himself. However he fails and is sent to serve in the military for a year, as he serves he meets a man that passes drugs like coke, and marijuana, the protagonist makes a deal to help him pass some drugs but instead the protagonist steals the drugs as he heads back to los santos so he can still prove himself to his gang. Once the man from the middle ea
The story should change the atmosphere of the city. The protagonist is in a gang, but after a failed heist, he has to prove himself to the gang leader so he plans a big heist on a bank, but fails so he is sent to serve in the military for a couple of months. As he serves his military sentenced, the protagonist meets a man that passes drugs to the u.s, together they make a deal to pass cocaine to america but the protagonist leaves along with the drugs. The protagonist returns to his gang with the drugs
How about this. In the new screen shots, there was that black guy. But in the trailer there is that white guy. So, you start off as the black guy, and then you meet the white guy, and the white guy has some sort of big mission, like taking over Los Santos. The white guy then asks the black guy if he can help and the black guy says yes, and then its a crazy ride for the black guy who goes on missions that the white guys sets up.
