1. Delivering Another Evolution To The GTA Formula
There’s no denying that Grand Theft Auto IV was a huge leap forward for the franchise, but at a certain level it was almost a guarantee. The transition had already been made to 3D gameplay with three previous installments on the PlayStation 2 hardware, so fans everywhere expected a new 3D installment with better graphics. It was an amazing accomplishment, but many fans seemed to be disappointed with the heavy focus on realism. Cell phones weren’t quite necessary were they?
With Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar needs to ensure that they deliver fans an evolution to the core gameplay, and inject a few new mechanics that takes the Grand Theft Auto formula to another level. However, if they decide to solely focus on evolving the level of realism, they may run the risk of losing a die-hard fan base that enjoyed GTA IV. It would seem the key is to strike a better balance between realism and sandbox gaming bliss, which leads us to our next point…

I don’t mean to be a pedant, but there’s a typo in the article. I presume “April 2012″ is meant to read “April 2013″.

I really hope that Rockstat goes overboard with the storline missions. 110 missions maybe? Something that’ll keep the gamers at the edge of their seats, guessing what would happen next. I also hope that we could replay storylined mission after the game is finished. Rockstar’s 3 latest intallments featured that option so why not this one? And all of those last mission from RDR, L.A. Noire and MP 3 all had epic last finalies. This should have multiple endings depending on the actions you make.
Don’t forget the “Clearance Auto” for auto insurance. Many now offer online quotes, and insurance shopping on the Web allows you to compare rates from multiple providers in the comfort of your own home.
I’m a long serving fan of GTA since I first seen screen shots in a PC gaming magazine many many years ago when I was a wee bopper! It lead to my brother and me buying the game the day it came out for his new PC with cutting edge windows 95 and a Pentium processor. Well when I say me and my brother I mean my mother due to the 18 certificate… Right up to GTA San Andreas, which I still play the downloaded version from Xbox store on my 360, I thought it was the joint greatest games of all time with Fallout 1 and 2. I followed the hype of GTA IV from the first announcement. I bought many magazines just to see what they are saying about it and I was on a fan based website every day reading the latest news. The amount of information leaked for GTA IV made me know almost everything of the game prior to release and I looked forward to all the mini games that must be in there and unique vehicles like the hover craft, go-cart and even another track and field style triathlon.
Well with my two weeks booked off work and after running around many shops at midnight fighting with herds of people at the local supermarkets I finally found my copy at a small towns Tesco. Grabbing the second to last copy and running to my car I got home, played it and completed it in a week. I then did what everyone does and look for other things to do… there was nothing. San Andreas still amazes me today with things you come across that you never knew before. GTA IV was all about the story, once ended there was pretty much nothing else to bring you back to the game other than completing it a second time to do the slightly different ending.
I really hope Rockstar remember all the fun and randomness they added to San Andreas and incorporate them into GTA V or they will lose one of their biggest fans, and I won’t be the only one who will no longer be queuing at midnight to get my hand on a copy…
I understand what you mean, and I think Rockstar has a huge opportunity to please fans who enjoyed the story and gameplay of GTA IV, but also those of us who fell in love with the older titles, and especially San Andreas.
I feel that they have a huge weight on their shoulders to live up to. With any luck they’ll be able to make those of us who have been devoted GTA fans since we can remember, and still stay true to their creative vision for deeper, realistic immersion.
Guess we’ll all have to wait a lil’ while longer until they finally unveil it for us.
I have a feeling that GTA: V is going to be big. Very big. I think that GTA: V DLCs are going to make R* lots of money. DLCs for Las Venturas and San Fierro if they’re not added into the game. DLCs for new vehicles? New weapons? Imagine what R* and TTWO could do if they utilized the full potential of current-gen consoles. If GTA: V is going to be the goliath of all video games, and probably the “swan song” of the 360 and PS3, imagine what GTA: VI will be like.
I got an email about a week ago, and it was a very interesting email. Essentially someone claiming to be releasing R* info (which is probably just BS, more than likely speculation) told me that there are going to be at least 250 vehicles and 50 usable weapons (not just guns, throwable things, explosives, etc.) in the index total. That is a really big step from what GTA: IV, the biggest GTA so far, had. Fans jumped at the little snippets of information given by R* (announce trailer, 2 pics, a press statement or two) and TTWO (2013 Returns podcast), I doubt that R* will need to give a lot of advertising to get the game to sell. They could announce it a month pre-release and release a trailer a week, and they’d sell a load of copies, just because of the amount of hype they’ve built so far. Who knows, we might see GTA: V Christmas week. You never know with Rockstar.
GTA: V is going to be very, very big. And I can’t wait.
