Halo 4: 10 Reasons It's The Best Halo Yet

9. Character Development

More so than any other game in the series, Halo focuses on developing its characters, which has previously been one of the few complaints that people have had about the single-player offering. Here it's a far more personal story, steering the focus away from Master Chief towards Cortana, and given that we're not really that attached to Chief in the first place - beyond his inimitable role as a badass - it's nice to see a human (ish) face getting more of the attention, especially after Halo 3, where she just randomly pops up all over the screen, much to our irritation. Still, even Master Chief, previously depicted as cold and arguably sociopathic, is developed as an actual person, a lonely man who sadly can relate far easier to an AI than he can a real human being. 343 don't play all their cards, though, and still give him enough ambiguity that we can buy him as a merciless soldier also.
