Halo 5: 10 Things Fans Need

10. A Mature Tone

Halo 4 There has already been a rumour that Halo 5 will be adapting a much darker tone than previous Halo games. Why is it important that this happens? Though there are features in almost all Halo games that portray darker themes - such as the destruction of the planet 'Reach' and obliteration of the research base in 'Halo 4' - no recent Halo game has felt particularly gritty in nature. The close-quarter and bloody fighting that was most regularly seen in the first Halo game was especially lacking in Halo 4, where robot-like opponents - known as the 'Forerunners' - replaced the normal alien foes halfway through the game. Whilst fighting the Forerunners was somewhat necessary to maintain the story, it reduced the 'mature' feel to the gameplay - their introduction contrasting greatly to the introduction of the zombie-like 'Flood' that appeared halfway through the first Halo game in a relatively horror-esque fashion. Other games with similar certifications are starting to contain more and more blood and gore, so Halo 5 should consider including more than a few small splatters of alien blood when the player mows down the masses of enemies in front of them. Players will feel like they are playing a game that is actually targeted at their age - though we are all far too aware of the young, underage gamers that plague the live multiplayer matches - and it will make tearing through aliens all the more rewarding. It may even work to create a tense atmosphere, if the game were to occasionally include more claustrophobic, poorly-lit settings - of course splattered with a bit of blood for effect - it could easily add to the suspense and feeling of threat, therefore allowing familiar enemies to still seem powerful and somewhat scary.
