Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Review: 7 Ups & 4 Downs

6. The Story

The decision to lean into story as a means to overcome the learning curve here is a smart one, because the story is actually very well conceived. Sure, it's obviously geared towards explaining the Foundables element in a way that allows for characters from the original series, artefacts and elements to be scatted across the world in a slightly contrived way, but it works.

The central mystery of the Calamity is also a nice replacement for a general Death Eaters/Voldemort story (even if it's somewhat inevitable - and wholly welcome) that they'll explore that sooner or later. In short, it's a clever way to keep you engaged even beyond just exploring and collecting, because it's an invitation to uncover another Harry Potter story.

Quite how long they'll be able to spin the same mystery remains to be seen, BUT there is a lot of potential here for the entire narrative make-up of the game to organically shift into new chapters and whole new stories if this one loses its appeal or reaches a natural end.
