Injustice 2 Reviews: 9 Critical Reactions You Need To Know

9. The Loot System Is Addictive, Nuanced & Frustrating

"Because Injustice 2 is a game that has come out in 2017, it has blind loot boxes and the loot you get is governed by some random number generator. The game is quite generous in the dishing out of the Mother Boxes, as they're called...But the whole thing feels a little frustrating. Most of the time I don't get an item for the handful of characters I play as. Green Arrow legs? Thanks for nothing. Black Canary arms? Sell for credits!" - Eurogamer
"Injustice 2 once again delivers knockout blows with its super-powered story and fighting, but finds a third way to entertain through an addictive collecting component...Winning a match feels great no matter what, but the game amplifies that sensation with a showering of rewards...The gear won’t excite in the opening hours...[but] extensive play leads to more exotic loot that can dramatically change the look of your character...The high-end gear also produces significant performance bumps such as strength increasing by +200 or ability by +150." - Game Informer
"Watching a character's traditional outfit transform into something fresh or unexpected, and seeing their stats grow through leveling up and equipping gear, grants a satisfying sense of ownership over your accomplishments and possessions." - Gamespot

Indeed, the loot grind is prevalent in so many AAA franchises these days whether it really suits the genre or not, and Injustice 2 is the latest to join the fray. That said, critics are largely praising the goodies on offer, for while the utterly randomness of it all won't be to everyone's taste, there's said to be an addictive quality to the gear grind.

Still, those less-enamoured with loot in general seem to view it as a take-it-or-leave-it feature, albeit one that's not particularly intrusive to the core gameplay loop, thankfully.
