Mass Effect 4: 10 Playable Races That Would Change Everything

Moving away from Shepard and humanity is the best thing that could happen.

The world of Mass Effect is easily one of the richest and most fleshed out in all of video games (if not science fiction in general) and something that feels purpose-built to tell a million different stories depending on which direction you point the camera. That looks to be the direction Bioware's taking the franchise going forward too, as depending on which rumours you read there's everything from playing as Commander Shepard's child to a string of alien races up for grabs; the one constant being that the team are getting as far away as possible from the original trilogy when it comes to characters. To be honest, even though that might rub some fans up the wrong way when half the appeal of the franchise is routed in hanging round with the likes of Garrus and romancing gorgeous blue ladies like Liara, the proposition of overturning another stone across the galaxy is just as enticing when you factor in the possibilities. Star Wars looks to be doing the same thing on the big screen too, embracing its fantastic mythology comprised of planets and far-off galaxies all full of different races, hierarchies, social systems and more all ripe for the picking - all that's left to do in this case is choose the most realistic possibilities and let the time between now and release do the rest. Are you listening, Bioware?
