It's without question one of the most anticipated games of the last few years, and amid a weirdly subdued marketing campaign and divisive early impressions, Mass Effect: Andromeda is finally here.

What is essentially a soft-reboot for the franchise has been earning disappointingly mixed responses from critics so far, rocking a mid-70s score on the PS4 (where it holds the most reviews), leaving it far away from the three prior games, which typically scored in the late 80s to high 90s depending on platform.

The coming days and weeks are sure to result in many think-pieces about where the game may have gone wrong, but also how damaging the power of expectations can be, as while the critical response is certainly disappointing for the latest offering from a highly revered AAA franchise, Andromeda is still largely deemed to be a decent game in spite of its myriad issues.
