As the world continues to get to grips with this bold, new direction for one of gaming's most historic and important franchises, there's a lot to love and hate about Mass Effect Andromeda.

That said, providing you don't get suckered in by the - admittedly hilarious - facial animation bugs (because honestly, you won't even notice after an hour or so), almost everything about how Andromeda plays is fundamentally different to the original trilogy. Planet and creature-scanning is now integral to acquiring new weapons and armour, combat itself comes with dedicated jump and dodge buttons, and even your fellow crew members can all but be ignored if you're mainlining the story-focused 'Primary Ops' missions.

Yes, for better or worst, Bioware have shaken the foundations of Mass Effect for the new generation - so much so it takes a lot of getting used to before everything clicks.

Andromeda is deep, but it's also incredibly rewarding, giving you a slew of awesome mission designs, character moments and worthwhile experiences - as long as you know where to look.
