Max Payne 3 Review Round Up

What better way to make your decision than with every review in one convenient place?

Max Payne 3 is finally here for those in the US who have been patiently waiting and while Europe will have to wait a little while longer, we have rounded up as many reviews as we could find. Now, you will be able to sift through the opinions of game reviewers everywhere and decide whether or not you are ready to shootdodge your way through an endless onslaught of bullets. I say this with the understanding that many of you will only be pulling the trigger if you have actually pulled yourself away from the vortex of loot-grabbing mayhem that is Diablo 3. Decisions, decisions. Having already logged in a solid seven hours of play time, I can safely say that Max Payne 3 is in fact incredibly awesome. The time spent has been a varied bag of death dealing happiness, but more time is being spent to ensure a proper and thorough review is written. Please be patient and WhatCulture's review will be ready very shortly for your reading pleasure. Until then, here is the assembled list of Max Payne 3 reviews, assembled in alphabetically order. 1UP: A- "Although the gunplay may still have its roots planted firmly in the past, the way Max Payne 3 showcases its world is undeniably forward thinking. It's a bit strange to gain so much pleasure from Max's suffering, but I guess that's the true essence behind Rockstar's magic." CVG: 8 outta 10 "Slick, bloody, beautiful... but not without its flaws" EDGE: 7 outta 10 "This is a game about a world-weary killer doing the only thing he knows how to, and for all its spectacular action beats there€™s something apt about Max€™s fatigue" G4: 5 outta 5 "Max Payne 3 is an action lover€™s wet dream that also happens to employ some of the slickest direction and transitional trickery this side of a David Fincher box set. Lock and load. It€™s bullet time...time." GAMEINFORMER: 9.25 outta 10 " The gameplay doesn€™t explore new territory, but delivers a retro charm that fans of the series should appreciate. It€™s a new day for Max Payne, and at the same time, a return to his glorious past." GAMESRADAR: 10 outta 10 "While there are some mechanically wonky moments, they€™re too miniscule to tank a stellar sequel that was worth the wait. Between its pacing, its presentation, and its excellent gunplay, Max Payne 3 has raised the bar for other action games to follow. Welcome back." IGN: 9 outta 10 "Action games continue to inch the dial towards 11, sometimes at the expense of their narrative integrity. Max Payne 3, however, has the conviction to reign in the action, imbue it with purpose - the spectacle still sparkles but it also makes sense." JOYSTIQ: 4.5 outta 5 "At least the plot is light on embarrassment, never coming close to the amateurish lows (or over-the-top highs?) that invoke utter dread whenever a significant other enters the room. No, it's a functional component of Max Payne 3, a game built out of remarkably implemented, masterfully presented parts. Video games live or die by the mechanisms that lie underneath. That's why the graveyards are always full." KOTAKU: YES (Play this game.) "If you get Max Payne 3, you'll see how good it feels to have your stomach heave with this anti-hero's signature brand of self-loathing and cunning. And then go online and see just how you manage the balance of caution and carelessness with thousands of people trying to do the same. Welcome home, Max. It's good to see you again, you poor bastard." THE VERGE: 9 outta 10 "It is uncompromisingly excellent, with a sense of focus that has secured Max Payne's legacy once again." XBOX 360 ACHIEVEMENTS: 93 outta 100 "A true cinematic gaming masterpiece, Max Payne 3 is not just another triumph for Rockstar, but it's also testament to what the developer can do when it turns its hand to linear storytelling. Max Payne 3 might be a stylistic shift for the series, but it's also a raw and brutal portrait of a man pushed to the edge that deserves a place alongside Rockstar's superlative open-world efforts." As more arrive or hit the net, we will be updating the page to include them here. Be sure to check back at WhatCulture! for our review when it goes live early Friday afternoon!
