Mortal Kombat 11: Everything We Know So Far

5. Brutalities And Variation System Return

Mortal Kombat 11
NetherRealm Studios

Mortal Kombat X was a very tight game mechanically. Rather than allow players to switch weapons and fight styles during matches, it offered three variations of each fighter in the roster menu. This meant the roster was actually much deeper than first glances would suggest, and it proved how talented the developer is at balancing fighters and making each feel unique.

That variation system will return in Mortal Kombat XI. Meaning you'll get three versions of Scorpion, Johnny Cage, and Kenshi, among many more. Another popular feature returning to the series is Brutalities. First introduced in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Brutalities made a ferocious return in MKX and offered a further method of eviscerating your opponent.

A new feature introduced in Injustice 2 was the gear system. However, it appears the gear system won't be coming over to MKXI. The gear mechanic is a direct alternative to the variation one in MK, so it wouldn't make sense to have both and it's good to keep the two series feeling different.
