Netflix's Castlevania Review: 4 Ups And 1 Down

2. The Violence

There are two types of presentation of violence in the series, and both are rather gory. In some instances the brutality is trivialized to the point of being rather humorous. For example, when Trevor Belmont takes a priests' finger he immediately apologizes - he just wanted to hurt, not disable him. Trevor, masterfully voiced by Richard Armitage, is also a one-liner machine, wisecracking throughout his battles. The lines are hit or miss, but when they work, they work out really well.

The rather serious instances of violence are also presented in a very bloody, convincing manner. The fight scenes are done well, they have adequate pace and rhythm. All in all, the show is well animated, but it really shines during the more hurtful, gory moments.
