Nintendo Announces Network ID Can Only Be Used On Console It Was Created On

Nintendo has confirmed that you will only be able to log in to your Nintendo Network account on your own handset, at least for the foreseeable future. Over at the usually pretty useful website Nintendo Support Site a spokesperson revealed the rather annoying news that at present you will only ever be able to sign into your account on the handset you create it on,which means you'll not be able to log in at a friends nor will you be able to log in if your current handset breaks. Bummer! In the statement Nintendo say the following:

A Nintendo Network Account can only be used on the console where it was created," the entry reads. "In the future, you will be able to use your Nintendo Network Account with future Nintendo consoles and other devices, such as PC's.

So it seems that there are long term plans in place to change this disappointing news but nothing this side of Christmas. So exactly what this means for those of us who are clumsy enough to destroy our Wii U isn't all that clear. We're guessing that you will have to create a NEW new account thus loosing all of your previously saved data including game progress, Miiverse posts and personal settings. Thanks for thinking this through BEFORE releasing the snazzy new handset Nintendo. Nintendo has also announced plans to expand the Nintendo Network to the Nintendo 3DS but more interesting than that is the mention of using it on your PC. It has been speculated that this feature may mean you have access to the bottomless pit of old content/back catalogue which would a) be awesome and b) make up for this most heinous of ball drops. Only time will tell. Keep checking back with us here for more information as it becomes available.
