Nintendo To Officially Unveil New Console 'NX' In June 2016

And it'll be in your hands before Christmas.

Just when you thought this year was going to have a tough time topping 2015, Nintendo come barrelling in with a solid new console announcement. The mysteriously-named 'NX' has been rumoured to be their return to a more 'hardcore' demographic, essentially in line with where the N64 left off, and thanks to a new report from Nomura Securities, we know it's going to be unveiled in June. And what major event happens in June? E3, baby. It's the perfect place for Nintendo to waltz back in just as Sony and Microsoft are forever struggling to put together their own first-party lineups, the Japanese giant then decimating the competition with a slew of high-profile exclusives we've been waiting on for years. The report from analyst Junko Yamamura notes that Nintendo will likely "announce the 'concept' sometime between March and May, unveil the actual console in June, and launch it between October and November", however the most interesting part is finally getting answers to what the console's killer hook actually is. Nintendo have mentioned in the past that they're undertaking something truly unique, and we recently got eyes on a controller patent that appeared to be a morphing handheld screen with buttons that would change shape to reflect what was being played on-screen. Considering Nintendo are the only company of the 'big three' to do backwards compatibility right over the years, it stands to reason they're going to make something that can handle the past generations of titles alongside the upcoming Legend of Zelda, which remains the outlier for why you'd want to hold off and invest in a Wii U. Do you see yourself investing in an NX after the fairly lacklustre years the other consoles have had so far? Let us know in the comments!
