Nintendo NX: 10 Awesome Reveals That Could Win The Console War

It's make or break for Nintendo.

The console war has been in full swing for almost three years now, and Sony decisively rule the roost with the PS4's approximate 55% console market share, while the Xbox One trails with close to 30%, and Nintendo's doomed Wii U sits at just over 15%.

Still, the battle may be over, but the war? Far from it. Nintendo have basically abandoned the Wii U and are now looking to release their next fully-fledged console next March, codenamed the Nintendo NX.

Little is known about the platform yet, and Nintendo's own claims that they are keeping things hush-hush to stop their competitors stealing their ideas has only caused speculation to run even more rampant than usual.

The theories range from the totally plausible to the mind-meltingly absurd, but each of these potential reveals would no doubt boost Nintendo's status significantly in the ongoing console war. One can only hope at least half of these ends up being true.

Here are ten awesome reveals that could win the console war for Nintendo...

10. Backwards Compatibility With All Wii & Wii U Games

One of the big selling points for just about any games system is backwards compatibility with prior consoles, though this has mutated recently to mean something completely different.

The Xbox One requires players to insert their legacy disc in order to download a digital version of the game for their console (assuming it's in the currently small library of compatible titles), while the PS4 has PlayStation Now, a cloud streaming service that requires a subscription fee.

Neither feature is as ideal or simple as putting in your old disc and playing it straight away, and the ability to play Wii and Wii U games out of the box would be a major selling point for the NX. Imagine if it could even go so far as to (somehow) play GameCube discs too.

How Likely Is It?: Given that the Wii U is fully backwards compatible with the Wii, this actually seems pretty damn likely...unless the rumour about the NX using cartridges actually turns out to be true. 8/10
