Nintendo NX: 8 Innovative Console Features It Must Have

Nintendo's make-or-break console COULD be perfect. But will it?

"If you only expand upon existing hardware, it's dull. In some shape or form, we're always thinking about how we want to surprise players as well as our desire to change each person's video gaming life." Those were some of the last public words from the late-great Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's CEO since 2002, and they're not exactly words that the vast majority of gamers wanted to hear. Nintendo have lagged behind Microsoft and Sony for years now, and the Wii was a significant step towards innovation, but a step to the side in terms of quality. If 'dull' means a powerful console akin to the PS4 or Xbox One featuring first party Nintendo games and focusing on games over gimmicks, then every gamer who once had their hands glued around an N64 controller would be rushing to the shops to find the dullest console possible. Nintendo simply can't grasp the fact that their original, adoring fans aren't 8-year-old kids any more. They want Rockstar's latest immersive ground-breaker, not some cheap game that would be more suited to a PS1, and they want deep single player experiences, not just the occasional breathtaking Zelda, Mario and Metroid being suffocated by countless pieces of third party trash. It would be amazing to see Nintendo go full-throttle to create a hardcore, powerful machine chock-full of modern tech, but Iwata's quotes suggest another gimmick-fest could be en route. With that in mind, here are a few innovative ideas Nintendo could use that would actually work on the NX.
