Nintendo's big reveal for the Nintendo Switch has (finally!) taken place and there's a good deal to take in. Some information has been expanded upon that was clear in the October 2016 first trailer but what we're most interested in are the new features.

The introduction to Nintendo's reveal event positioned the system as a culmination of everything Nintendo has done with their console hardware. In that introduction, Nintendo stated that they had been thinking of a hybrid system since the GameCube, and so the Switch is finally that vision made into reality. They also categorically said it's a home gaming system that can be taken on the go.

We now know of several confirmed games like Splatoon 2, 1-2 Switch and newly-revealed Super Mario Odyssey and also have full details about the JoyCon controllers and their precise functionality. In the presentation, Nintendo promised there are 80 games in development at present from at least 50 developers. Nintendo will join with Sony and Microsoft by charging for their online gaming service.

There's plenty to learn about as we march towards the March 2017 release date. Join us for a whirlwind tour of what the Switch has to offer and the 10 Things We Learned from the January 2017 Nintendo Switch Reveal.

So rumours-be-damned: it's not going to be March 17th, 24th or even 31st. The release date for the Nintendo Switch is Friday 3rd March, 2017.

This is slightly surprising, but at least gives fans worldwide a relatively short wait between the deluge of information from now and the 50 days leading to release.

Two headlining games were given a 3/3/17 release date too: 1-2 Switch, a new party game with mini-games reminiscent of WarioWare, and of course, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

There are plenty of other games coming, but many had release "window" dates like Summer 2017 or Holiday 2017. A bit of a shame but hopefully the eShop might keep some players busy in the meantime.

The price is $299.99 in the US which has been confirmed by UK retailer GAME to be £279.99 for the UK market. Hopefully the price will not exceed €300 as this may put off many gamers who do not see the value in it.
