PAX East 2013: 5 Games That Ruled The Expo

3. Neverwinter

Developer: Cryptic Studios Platform: PC Neverwinter is the latest title from City of Heroes developer, Cryptic Studios. I was lucky enough to get an interview with the CEO Jack Emmert and he had a lot of exciting things to say about the specifics behind the Dungeons and Dragons MMORPG. For a start, you roll your stats making your character a lot more unique in its abilities. The game itself is very sensitive to the tabletop version, calling for spot and listen checks and even rolling a hit chance and armor save. The combat mechanics behind this game seem to be very well placed. A hit to a creatures weak-point will lead to a critical strike and you must be facing your target and close by to hit. It's not as simple to smash buttons, you will have a daily spell to cast as well and short or long rests are required to recover health and mana (without potions). It's great to see a DnD title staying to true to its tabletop counterpart and should be very fun to play.
