PlayStation 5: 8 New Rumours You Need To Hear

There's still plenty of life left in the PlayStation 4, but that hasn't stopped fans from wondering what the future might hold for Sony's gaming division.

The PS5 rumour mill started spinning faster when Sony Interactive Entertainment America CEO Shawn Layden name-dropped the mythical machine in an interview with German website Golem.de over the Summer.

Suddenly, the PS4 Pro felt a bit less new and exciting.

Although the studio executive gave away nothing of any substance - and probably got told off by PR for his efforts - the very mention of next-gen hardware from an official source was enough to send the internet abuzz with rumours and speculation.

Since then the flow of PS5 news has been steady, with reports hinting at the kind of hardware it will be packing under the bonnet, the games it will likely host and, perhaps most importantly, when the machine might see the light of day.

Sony has almost certainly begun working on its next console. It probably exists in prototype form in a secret underground lab somewhere, complete with an array of Xbox-killing features on board.

An official PlayStation 5 announcement could well over a year away, but a few nuggets of information about Sony's future plans in the console sector may be revealed at an event in London this month.

The Evolution of Gaming expo takes place at London's Science Museum on 25 October, and among the guest speakers is Sony Computer Entertainment president Phil Harrison, who will offer his thoughts about the future of gaming.

This will be an insightful talk for anyone curious about the PS5, since Harrison will likely provide insight into the direction the console will take and what it will be capable of.

Other panellists at the event include Rebellion co-founders Chris Kingsley and Jason Kingsley, and Sensible Soccer creator Jon Hare, who will be discussing everything from the 16-bit era console wars, to the birth of PlayStation.

Footage from the Kickstarter-funded PlayStation Revolution documentary, part of the Bedrooms to Billions series, will also debut at the expo.
