PlayStation 5: 8 Rumours We Hope AREN'T True

5. Wireless Charging Controllers

The games industry has been heading towards a cable-less future since the PlayStation 3 era when the Dualshock controller gained the ability to function wirelessly. This was a major leap forward since cables can be unsightly, not to mention awkward for those who like to sit a certain distance away from the TV screen.

According to rumours website PS5 Home, Sony is planning to take this evolution a step further with the PS5, shipping the machine with gamepads that feature wireless charging. So when that dreaded 'low battery' symbol flashes up on the screen, you'd simply plonk the controller on top of the system and watch it draw in the juice.

Eliminating the need for wires entirely may have aesthetic benefits, but is it practical? The issue here is that you wouldn't be able to continue playing while the pad is charging, unless you had another juicing up on standby, and who's that organised?

Cables aren't exactly sexy but they still serve a purpose, providing life support to a depleted DualShock. Mobile phones haven't eliminated them completely - even though many of the latest models have wireless charging - for this very reason.

Furthermore, have you priced up a brand new DualShock 4 lately? Imagine how much one of these things would set you back if it had built-in wireless charging as well.
