Pokemon: 5 Pokefacts You Probably Didn't Know

2. Pokemon Is A Driving Factor In Japan's Economy

url-4 So we all Pokemon is a huge deal, but I don't think we realize how huge a deal it is really. Sure we all know of that friend whose room is full of PokePlush dolls, the friend who has read ever Pokemon manga... we all know about the PokeCenters in Osaka and Tokyo; and the Nintendo Store in New York which is basically a PokeCenter in the US that happens to sell other Nintendo stuff. The thing that is really amazing, though, is that Pokemon is one of the key parts to Japan's Economy. In 2006 Pokemon was reportedly an entire sixth of the Japanese GDP - that is one industry accounting for one sixth of an entire countries GDP (2008 Modern Japanese History: An Anthology 1800-2007- no online source). That might seem a small amount but if you think about that for second, let it sink; that is an estimated over 500,000,000 Yen (at the rate then the US dollar was about 110 yen, so that is well over $800 billion).

From the heart of "Bring Back Toonami" movement to midnight opening of every comic book movie, I've been there. Name a video game and I've played it, my special hook though is my love and knowledge of Japanese history, culture, and cinema. Wordpress:http://atomsk21.wordpress.com/
