7. What Happened To Pokémon Stars?

Cast your mind back to the tail end of 2016 - months before the Switch hit retail - and you'll no doubt remember one particular report published by Eurogamer claiming to have the scoop on Pokémon Stars - an upcoming Switch port of that year's Sun & Moon which would add a handful of bells and whistles over the 3DS version.

Following Nintendo's announcement of a fully-fledged Pokémon game for Switch at last year's E3, it became apparent that Stars was no longer a thing. Eurogamer issued a follow-up to its original report at the end of last year, speculating that the port was canned after it became apparent that the Switch was a success and wouldn't require a 'simple' port job to pull in Pokéfans as a means of preventing a fate similar to that of the Wii U.

In other words, Pokémon Stars was a failsafe without purpose in the timeline where the Wii U's successor ended up meeting (and exceeding) expectations. That's not to say the prospect of a port will never again come around, but for now, all attention is on a brand new adventure.
