PS5: 11 Second-Party Studios Sony MIGHT Buy

9. Ready At Dawn

Kojima Productions
Ready At Dawn

Ready At Dawn is made up of ex-employees of Sony-owned Naughty Dog. It initially started as makers of premier PSP games with Daxter, Gods Of War: Chains Of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta being stellar examples. Then they moved to consoles and VR games...to mixed results.

Why Likely:

The developers enjoyed a strong collaboration with Sony from the jump, (likely due to the Naughty Dog history) and they had a friendly exclusive publishing agreement.

Impressed by their excellent PSP titles, Sony decided to upgrade them to a triple-A PS4 title with The Order: 1886. It was seen as the next natural step between the two and massive hype surrounded the game as it was touted to be the console's next must-play I.P.

Why Not:

Then the game came out and was critically mauled and likely the only major triple-A embarrassment Sony has had this cycle.

Plans for a franchise were scuppered, Dawn was hit by layoffs and had an official parting of ways with Sony. Since then they've moved onto exclusively creating VR titles...but blatantly on the Oculus Rift and not the PSVR.

It's a shame considering the history and strong backlog the two had together. Regardless, both parties still seem a little too bitter to mend bridges.
