Ranking Every Devil May Cry From Worst To Best

6. Devil May Cry 2

DMC 2 was always going to be the worst one, both here and for the rest of time.

Following DMC 1, Capcom found themselves in a time in entertainment history where The Matrix was king, and post-grunge grimdark attitudes were in vogue. As such, they took the cocky, "got this" vibes of Dante and... turned him into completely different character.

Aesthetically he looked trim and honestly, pretty badass, but this was a Dante more concerned with saying as little as possible, as cutscenes are easily the most forgettable in the saga.

The worst thing though, was combat. Notably slower and with various disconnected animations that had to play out before you could do anything else, it felt soul-crushingly boring. Gone was the sense of flow that personified the original, and in was a repetitive, stilted experience where even firing guns in mid-air felt bland.

Levels too were brown and grey smudges filled with bad texture work and phoned-in puzzles. Dante might have debuted the ability to wall-run and shoot two targets at once, but literally everything else was spectacularly off.
