Red Dead Redemption 2 Gameplay Reveal: 6 Ups & 2 Downs
1. The Jury's Still Out On The Combat
Though Rockstar's typically soothing narration insists that "shooting and fighting have both been radically improved to make combat deep and engaging at all times", the footage here honestly isn't fully convincing of that fact.
The awkwardness of the cover, gunplay and melee combat in Rockstar's previous games is well-documented, and it's safe to say that it's probably the developer's weakest overall skill.
As great as RDR2 looks, the hand-to-hand brawling still looks distinctly stiff in places, and outside of Dead Eye - which we'll get to in a moment - the shooting seems a touch too automated to be truly satisfying.
This is of course just a first look at the game's action mechanics, so perhaps future footage will clarify the refinements Rockstar have made. That said, this will probably end up being the worst aspect of the game as it so often is for the company.
Those quibbles aside, here's everything the trailer absolutely nails...
