Although a lot of players going into GTA V hoped that the game would carry over the same detailed third-person shooting from Rockstar's own Max Payne 3, it only took a few cues from that title rather than bringing across mechanics wholesale.

Red Dead Redemption 2, however, already includes multiple touches that evoke the same gunslinging system from Max's last outing. The trailer made a big deal of the fact that your arsenal is kept in saddlebags, however it also showed that you can only carry the items you can literally sling around your body, adding a sense of realism to the inventory.

Likewise, while shooting with a pistol, Arthur holsters it and brings over a repeater from his left hand in one swift moment, which is exactly the same animation-based gunplay Max Payne 3 used. Whether or not the sequel will have the same 360-degrees of shooting featured in that title is yet to be seen, but it bodes well that Rockstar are aping that underrated release.
