Resident Evil 6 Gets "Best Pre-Orders So Far"

"The plan is the biggest Resident Evil game ever. We’re not messing around."

Recently Christian Svenssonan, Capcom's SVP of business development, shed some light on Resident Evil 6 with Game Informer. Svenssonan revealed information on pre-orders and the power of the first trailer to please all fans of the series. With the November 20th release date so far away, it was a bit of a puzzle as to why they announced the game this early. With several other titles already cramping together in the tiny space that is the holiday release window Svenssonan had this to say:
"We€™re saying, 'Get the hell out of the way.' We€™re a big game. We€™re letting you know we€™re coming. We€™re giving people plenty of room to move around us. The other part is the nuts and bolts of it. If we put our stake in the ground, we can start lining up retail channel promotions, etc."
So much power already fuels the Resident Evil franchise it wouldn't seem that much promotion would be needed, however getting a head start on marketing for the busy holiday releases will effectively keep the title in the mind of consumers. With multiple Resident Evil titles already rapidly approaching their release once official reveal rolled out for the 6th installment, it did come as a surprise. The shadow RE6 could cast seemed like a risky maneuver. Svenssonan's response made a great amount of sense.
"That would be the conventional wisdom. However, we don€™t think conventionally. We thought it would actually raise the awareness of all things Resident Evil, and as it turns out it did. Our preorders for Revelations and Raccoon City were both helped on an upward spike with the announcement of Resident Evil 6. The pre-orders for Resident Evil 6 are off to a fantastic start. The best start a Resident Evil game has ever had."
With the success of the trailer raising awareness, and effectively proving that all things Resident Evil are merely being brought farther into the spotlight, the fans were also being brought together. Developer's of the title appear to be trying to cater to their whole fanbase. Appealing to the newer audience that has experienced RE as a fast-paced horror adventure, while still trying to bring back the roots of the franchise in it's slow paced, nail-biting, zombie staggering experience.
"I think they€™ll say the same thing, and that is part of the fun is figuring out how to scratch the itch of both audiences."
Resident Evil 6 is going to be big. Whether it can stomp out Modern Warfare 3's staggering sales records is yet to be seen. As November will surely come before we know it, we are going to be able to see the marketing kick into high gear at some point. With 8 months left for promotion, Svenssonan's words on their sales expectations says it all.
