1. Resident Evil Was Almost Always Going To Be First-Person

Yes, various fans have pointed out that the series did go first-person in both Resident Evil: Survivor and Dead Aim's combat segments, but the franchise was initially created to be a first-person exploration game way back in the 90s.

Simply because of how 1989's Sweet Home had its own first-person combat mechanics, Resi mimicked this as the player's standard view for a considerable amount of time. The decision to switch to third-person was only made because Shinji Mikami played 1992's Alone in the Dark, and because the PS1's hardware couldn't handle first-person gameplay at a decent frame rate, meaning that pre-rendered static backgrounds were somewhat ideal.

So for all those noting that RE7's survivalist aspects, item-hoarding and ammo-scarcity are 'returning the series to its roots', know that it's the 'all-new' first-person perspective that's ironically the most old-school aspect of them all.
