The story of Resi's original dual naming convention is itself pretty cool, but after 20 years, perhaps even Capcom are getting sick of living the double life.

As the story goes, back during the game's development, Capcom wanted the franchise to simply be known as 'Biohazard', only for Sony's Chris Kramer to point out that not only would the word be impossible to copyright in the west, but they'd already been beaten to the punch by a DOS game of the same name.

As such - and literally because it was a humorous pun on fighting zombies in a house - 'Resident Evil' was born from a selection of pitched names on offer. That said, 20 years later and the registered name for RE7 is 'Resident Evil 7: Biohazard', bringing the title across the shores for the first time.

An indication of a unified brand name at some point in the future? Perhaps, though how would you react if the series was 're-branded' as Biohazard forevermore?
