After five years of licking their wounds and having a real good think about the state of the franchise, Capcom have revitalised Resident Evil in truly landmark fashion. Gone is the overly campy tone and focus on action set-pieces, and in is a considered story with perfect pacing, a solid selection of detestable antagonists and an all-new first-person camera angle to hang with the likes of Outlast and P.T.

Across the board you can tell Capcom needed its marquee, somewhat legendary IP to have a good showing, and as such, RE7's gameplay is a return to the corridor-crawling, item-hoarding delights of the old school. There's not been a Resident Evil quite like this since its first sequel, but that means obfuscation is also back in force.

You'll really need to think your way out of any number of scenarios, and when it comes to combat, following the first few hours there's a marked change in tone where going on the offensive is paramount, meaning there are all manner of tips and tricks that'll help you out.
