Resident Evil 8: 7 Brand New Leaks & Rumours You Need To Know

7. It's Set On An Abandoned Island (With A Secret Lab)

Resident Evil 7 bucked trends, but also totally didn’t, with the Baker Mansion. Its grimy, southern aesthetic and distinct lack of any (real) secret laboratory was incredibly un-Resident Evil, but its self-contained layout, with each wing home to whole host of new, unpredictable horrors, felt like a throwback to the franchise’s roots.

Apparently the next game is moving away from both of these features with its choice of location, setting the action on an abandoned island. In classic Resi fashion, this’ll be home to a secret underground lair, where nefarious biohazards are created an experimented on.

On the surface this might seem like a bit of a step back, but an entire island to explore does mean the devs should have plenty of scope when it comes to being creative. Being trapped in a place like this inherently comes with a pervasive sense of isolation and claustrophobia, while free-form exploration could add an even greater sense of non-linearity that the series has always flirted with.

Also, it should, hopefully, ensure no out-of-nowhere new location is thrown in at the end that's markedly worse than the one that came before.
