Sega Mega Drive Mini: Ranking The 10 Best Games

9. Gunstar Heroes

Sega Mega Drive Mini
Treasure

The first game created by acclaimed game developer, Treasure.

This side-scrolling run and gun adventure features an acrobatic hero or two, that can utilise a variety of weapons such as homing weapons, fire and lightning, plus combinations which effectively create more new weapons.

The artwork is fantastic even today, with little minions exploding into flame or being thrown across the screen.

Action is fast and furious with bad buys and bullets flying everywhere, and a variety of different levels, from standard walking left to right to riding vehicles up and down chasms.

The highlight has to be the weird and wonderful sub-bosses and bosses - all of which vary from giant insects and enemy controlled vehicles to larger than life robots. Some of the most spectacular battles take place against multiple forms - something that would become a Treasure trademark.

Gunstar Heroes is a challenging but fair game, and a fantastic ride throughout. You can also pick which level to start on so if you run into a challenge that’s too tough you can always have fun on the other levels.
