Smash Bros Ultimate: 10 Characters Who Could Be The Final DLC

Everybody’s here! Well, not quite...

Crash Bandicoot Smash
Activision/Nintendo

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is one of the most ambitious crossover games ever, collecting close to 80 characters together as playable fighters, with plenty more Nintendo franchises represented as stages, assist trophies or spirits.

And yet, we’re still not satisfied.

We know there are a total of six DLC fighters coming, and we also know who four of them are. Piranha Plant and Persona’s Joker are already in the game, with the Hero of Dragon Quest coming next, followed quickly by Banjo & Kazooie.

Banjo-Kazooie have slightly overshadowed Dragon Quest’s Hero, who brings a small but mighty following, even if they aren’t too different from the other sword fighters already in the game.

Banjo-Kazooie themselves though have been heavily requested for a while, despite not featuring in a game since Nuts & Bolts 11 years ago. With them in, it feels like the door just swung a little bit wider for some of the unlikely requests to actually be fulfilled.

Prior to the release of the game, the likes of Cloud and Ridley were seen as pipe dreams, while no one saw Wii Fit Trainer coming. It feels like, at this stage, nobody is fully off the table.

10. Captain Toad

Crash Bandicoot Smash

Toad seems to be in a strange place right now. He’s been an important part of the Mario franchise for some time, and has a memorable running gag with his distaste for and disappointment with meeting Luigi whenever their paths cross.

He also had himself a spin off game recently: Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker. The puzzler was neat, wholesome fun, with a tone in line with, say, Yoshi’s Crafted World.

Despite this though, it seems like his stock is falling. Treasure Tracker never got much traction, he’s tucked away in far corners of Odyssey to encourage you to explore, and he’s left on the sidelines in Mario Party.

Worse than the sidelines, actually, the Mario gang have him and his people organise the party, but they never get to join in on the games.

Then he’s in Smash... as a bit part player in one of Peach’s moves.

This Toad injustice simply has to end. He’s a fun, vibrant, often sassy character who deserves much more than being relegated to a glorified extra.

Jeez, he’s treated like a Goomba these days. Except Goomba is actually playable in Mario Party. Poor Toad.
