Sony Have "No Definitive Plans" For Resistance Franchise

Resistance franchise basically dead?

The Resistance franchise has been one of Sony's biggest exclusives for the past six years or so, but recently the franchise has fallen on hard times. Resistance 3 was released to some very good reviews but the game was a fairly big flop sales wise. Resistance: Burning Skies was recently released for the PlayStation Vita, however this game also did not get very many favorable reviews. Additionally, the creators of the franchise have essentially left the IP and left it in the hands of Sony. Fans of the series then will be even more disappointed to hear that Sony has no new plans for the franchise. In an interview with the UK Official PlayStation Magazine Sony made this statement:

"the Resistance Franchise has been exciting to work on, but as for the future we have no definitive plans.€
So basically the Resistance franchise is basically sitting on the ground collecting dust at this point. It is a little frustrating considering how well received Resistance 3 was. I think there is a lot you can do with the franchise and I think the only reason Sony is neglecting it is because of how poorly Resistance 3 sold. I would hope that Sony would hire another developer to work on the franchise, maybe for the next generation Sony console, but apparently as of right now Sony just doesn't want to spend the money on the franchise. Do you think Sony will one day return to the Resistance franchise or do you think that the franchise is essentially dead?
