Square Enix Accused Of Racism in DEUS EX: Human Revolution

Square Enix has responded today over allegations that one of the characters in their newest release Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a racist stereotype. A blog written by Time's writer Evan Narcisse examines the character Letitia, an informant who when we first meet her is picking through trash. Here is a quote from the article:

"The horrible broken English Letitia speaks is so far removed from any actual slang that it renders the character practically extra-terrestrial. It's not from an alien planet, though. That slang harkens back to the worst blackface minstrelsy of the last century. Even the voice actor sounds embarrassed at the things she€”even though it sounds like a man, at times€”has to say."
A Clip from the game of Lititia: http://youtu.be/He09JaBVZdE Square Enix has released a response to this article:
"Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a fictional story which reflects the diversity of the world's future population by featuring characters of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. While these characters are meant to portray people living in the year 2027, it has never been our intention to represent any particular ethnic group in a negative light," the statement concludes."
Personally I couldn't even tell if the character was a male or female because the voice actor made the character sound like a guy trying to talk like a women. I don't find the character as offensive as some people might though I could definitely see how people could interpret Letitia as a racial stereotype character. For those who have played the game what is your impression of Leticia, do you think she is a racist stereotype?
