Square Enix & Just Cause Developers Working on Open World Game

Square Enix and Avalanche Studios teaming up "ground breaking" open world game.

Square Enix announced today that they are working with Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios on a new open world game. Just last week Square Enix registered domain names for Just Cause 3 and Just Cause 4. Square Enix also published the first two Just Cause games, but at this time Square Enix and Avalanche won't confirm if their combined efforts are going towards Just Cause 3. In advertising a recruitment event to Eurogamer, Avalanche talked about ramping up development on several titles due out in 2013 and 2014. Avalanche also mentioned that titles where for both current generation consoles and next generation consoles. They described their current project as "ground breaking" and an "action title". Put that together with the fact that it is most likely a open world game and there is a good chance that game is Just Cause 3. However, there is a chance it might not be Just Cause 3 because Avalanche has confirmed in the past they are working on two other undisclosed projects based on a comic book and movie franchise. Speculation being that one of those unannounced Avalanche projects is based on the upcoming movie Mad Max 4: Fury Road, although this is just speculation. If this all seems a little confusing, that is because it is. At this point by my count Avalanche is working on no less than three games and there might even be a fourth title. The question is the game they are working on with Square Enix Just Cause 3? I would say yes but it may not be their top priority, meaning Avalanche could be working on another game that will come out before Just Cause 3. Hopefully Avalanche will make an official announcement at E3 next week.
