Star Wars Battlefront 2 Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
Downs...
5. The Campaign Is Extremely Disappointing
After fans complained that 2015's Battlefront lacked a single-player campaign, EA promised that Battlefront 2 would feature a rich, substantial story mode, but sadly, that's not the case at all.
Clocking in at just four hours in length, much of which consists of cut-scenes and walking sections, the campaign is a disappointingly piecemeal offering that's largely comprised of generic A.I. skirmishes with cut-scenes wrapped around the edges.
Janina Gavankar gives a compelling performance as protagonist Iden Versio, though players ultimately get little sense of her as the game frequently cuts away for fan-servicey sections in which you play as one of several Star Wars legends.
Versio's arc is predictable throughout and the core plot itself proves resoundingly dull, a few crowd-pleasing moments notwithstanding.
Simply, it's just not what fans were sold, and is distressingly basic considering how much EA talked it up pre-release.
