Research by Cowen analysts have suggested that the year's most-anticipated MMO, Star Wars:The Old Republic, will sell 3 million units in its first year, doubling their original estimation of 1.5 million. The research was reported through GamesIndustry.biz and covered both sell-through and run-rate subscriber figures: with the latter going up from a predicted 1 million to 2 million. This also puts a positive gleam on EA's shares, with the analysts suggesting "at least a 25 per cent upside relative to the market over the next 12 months". WoW: Cataclysm has pushed over 4 million units and, if the trends set by Old Republic's pre-order numbers are anything to go by, BioWare's latest could be a contender to knock the fantasy epic from its undisputed throne (in the long-term). There is still no confirmed release date for the game, but pre-ordering grants players a chance to play the game ahead of launch--whenever that may be.
