Street Fighter X Mega Man: 5 Reasons You Should Be Excited

Considering the abysmal depths Capcom has plunged the Mega Man franchise into, I was absolutely shocked to see a trailer pop-up for a Capcom-endorsed fan game that combined the company's two most storied franchises, and it looked good! Coming out of nowhere, this 8-bit tribute looks to be one of the best additions either property has seen in a while. Since it happens to be the twenty-fifth anniversary of both the Mega Man and Street Fighter brands, this seems like the most unlikely yet obvious pairing that should occur. With a release date set for this December 17th on the PC, fans have an early Christmas gift they get to unwrap. Here are five reasons you should be excited for this collision of classic gaming icons.

5. It's a Mega Man Game, Not a Street Fighter Game

Fighting games are a dime a dozen, and most don't do anything worthwhile to stand out among the crowd. While it may service some nerdy fantasy of seeing Proto-Man being electrocuted by Blanka, a fighting game with a mixture of Street Fighter and Mega Man characters wouldn't be anything exceptional, in the long run. However, using the Mega Man format for the gameplay and injecting Street Fighter characters into that scenario seems like it could result in something special and different. Turning Street Fighter characters into the robot masters/bosses for Mega Man to fight is a much more novel approach than just stuffing another generic fighter with as many characters from both franchises as possible.
