Super Mario Odyssey Reviews: 10 Critical Reactions You Need To Know

8. Co-Op Is Fun...To A Point

Super Mario Odyssey
Nintendo
"It's also possible for a second player to join in and control Cappy as a full-fledged independent character capable of collecting coins, defeating small enemies, and remotely possessing targets while Mario does his thing. Given that two players have to share a single camera, this isn't necessarily a great way to overcome difficult objectives, but it can be a great source of amusement." - Gamespot
"You can even play co-op if you want, with one player controlling Mario and another controlling Cappy independently. This is game-breakingly advantageous, since the player controlling the hat can just whizz him around willy-nilly taking out enemies, capturing things at any distance, or doing all sorts of cool moves I haven’t even thought of yet. Of course, you’d need to function as a team pretty well to make this work." - Kotaku

The fact that Odyssey touts a co-op mode hasn't received that much press compared to other aspects of the game, but it's a fun, novel little addition which will be especially fun for parents playing with younger children.

Though some did argue that the 2-player mode makes the game hilariously easy and camera issues do certainly abound, it's still an enjoyable little jaunt in short bursts. Again, it's best for the young'uns, as adults will probably find it not challenging enough (even for the forgiving standards of this franchise).
