SUPERHOT Is The Coolest Game You Never Knew You Wanted

Virtual reality bullet-dodging? JUST TAKE OUR MONEY.

Initially put together as a proof of concept during a 7-day challenge to create an all-new FPS game in 2013, SUPERHOT's full release (and it must always be typed in full caps) is quickly becoming one of the most promising-looking titles in years. Its bigger-budgeted version has essentially been shown off as a tech demo for the Oculus Rift across the last two years, but with a Kickstarter that's well underway, backers just got their hands on a fully playable game, a plethora of awesome features giving a great idea of how the final product will play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9Gz2FIlPXk From the moment gameplay kicks in you can see time being distorted and remixed on the fly, and as the game's core hook is that "time only moves when you do", it enables you (with the aid of any VR equipment) to literally duck under bullets before returning fire or lobbing any number of items at your attackers. Graphics-wise developers SUPERHOT Team are steering far away from anything remotely realistic, and are instead focussing on getting a solid frame rate down, alongside a gorgeous hyper-stylised aesthetic that already makes the whole thing immediately recognisable. SUPERHOT's Kickstarter is still ongoing if you want to get in on the action, but as for this beta being an indication of what's to come with many more months of development - I can only imagine how incredible it's going to be when it hopefully drops later this year. What do you make of SUPERHOT's neat little idea? Let us know in the comments!
