The Fall Of The JRPG: 5 Reasons Why RPGs Will Never Be The Same

1. Graphics

Possibly the one redeeming factor of later JRPGs, the graphics are often incredibly breathtaking. From emotions shown on the faces of your most beloved character to the world around them, graphics are what draws our eyes to a game whether through trailers or cover art, and they're certainly a big factor in what makes us stick with them.

Though there's something childishly charming about retro graphics, I am a huge fan of the realism that new age JRPGs bring in. Even the cartoon/anime style games have a unique and delightful approach to the universe around them. My only wish is that they could combine this with the other elements and make something truly beautiful!

This brings me to my conclusion. As you could probably tell throughout the article, I miss my old style JRPGs. It's probably childish nostalgia and partly to do with my love of stories and plots, but a lot of the games that are being spewed into the system these days don't seem to be up to standard. On the other hand - as much as I've been rambling on about the next generation games, there are still a few gems, the most recent of which I've found is Ni No Kuni; you can't always find everything you want in a game, but if you keep an eye out for the parts that you love most, you'll find some that'll have you feeling like you're ten years old again.
