The Game Awards 2018 has come and gone, and it's fair to say that the show was a fairly mixed bag of rushed awards presentations, overbearing advertisements and also some enticing game reveals.

The show sadly didn't deliver the megaton showings a lot of fans were hoping for - namely Square Enix's new Avengers game and the much-expected Metroid Prime 4 - but there were still a ton of intriguing unveilings alongside some long-awaited release date confirmations.

So, what are the major takeaways from the show? 2019 is going to be an absolutely stacked year for games considering everything that's already been announced for Q1 alone, while Epic Games clearly means business with the launch of their storefront intended to rival Steam.

Whether you're craving smaller indie titles or boisterous AAA fare in 2019, The Game Awards provided compelling evidence that the next 12 months is going to serve up plenty of both in spades. And now, the countdown to E3 2019 begins...
