The Witcher began as a series of stories written by the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, following the adventures of protagonist, Geralt of Rivia. The books have become so popular that they gained what has been described as a 'cult following' across many countries.
Arguably the most popular platform The Witcher has graced is video games. Releasing in 2007, the first Witcher title was met with very positive responses, leading to a sequel in 2011. Assassins of Kings reached a far wider audience thanks to more positive reviews, which then resulted in 2015's extremely successful The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As the most popular instalment in the series - and one of the best RPGs of all time - Wild Hunt was voted Game of the Year by various outlets, having won many awards.
