WII U: Ubisoft CEO Discusses Precursor to the Next Generation

Game developer CEO Yves Guillemont suggests Wii U will be a game changer...

Critics will say what they will about the Wii€™s merit as a €˜serious console€™ next to the likes of Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemont, however, believes Nintendo€™s next games machine€”the WII U€”could herald the exciting transition into gaming€™s next generation. In an interview with Gamasutra.com, Guillemont commented,
€œWe feel this console is coming with very innovative features that will change the video game industry and we want to be a part of that.€
With its pioneering €˜touchscreen controller€™ allowing gamers to continue playing with the television off, the Wii U certainly looks to be breaking some new ground (much in the same vein as DS€™s dual-screen, 3DS€™s glasses-free 3D and the Wii€™s motion controllers). New Super Smash Bros and Pikmin titles have already been hinted for the new console, as well as backwards capability with Wii games and accessories. Guillemont went on to add,
"I think it's sending the message that the new transition is going to happen €“ and we're going to have new machines coming soon,"
Rumours of a new €˜Xbox 720€™ console are already circulating and, if the hype is to be believed, the Wii U may be the harbinger of a whole new generation of hi-tech awesome. The console is slated for release after April 2012.
